Frameworks for Strategic Management Term Paper

Used Frameworks in this Course

A.) Vision -- Yin & Yang Framework (Reading:"Building Your Company's Vision")

"Companies that enjoy enduring success have core values and a core purpose that remain fixed while their business strategies and practices endlessly adapt to a changing world", - James C. Colins and Jerry Poras

The Yin:Core Ideology (core values & core purpose).

The Yang: Envisioned Future (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal, including its vivid description).

Formulate or articulate the Vision in such a way that there is a "balance" (or shall we say consistency) between the Yin and the Yang.

"Any effective vision must embody the core ideology of the organization, which inturn consists of two (2) distinct parts:

CORE VALUES: A system of guiding principles and tenets.
CORE PURPOSE: The organization's most fundamental reason for existence.
...
You do not create or set core ideology.
You discover core ideology.
You do not deduce it by looking at the external environment.
You understand it by looking inside...ask what core values do we trully and passionately hold?...

Also be guided that the role of core ideology is to guide and inspire not to differentiate...

You cannot impose new core values and purpose on people; nor are core values and purpose things people can buy into. Executives often asks, "How do we get people to share our core ideology?
You don't. You can't.
Instead, find people who are predisposed to share your core values and prupose; attract and retain those people."
